Consumer Electronics Show - CES2001

"Weren’t you just in Vegas a couple months ago? Tough duty!" friends chuckled. "Consumer electronics – home entertainment and games? Isn’t that stretching it a bit for someone who’s supposed to be focused on Web and wireless applications for complex organizations?" they said.  In truth, there are no casinos, floor shows, or dancing girls at the hotel I’m staying at.  I’ve only got three days to glean as much information as I can from CES.

CES is a treasure-trove of technology that can be applied to complex business processes.  Hardware, user interfaces, and applications that people use in a consumer setting create enormous expectations about how those products should function when applied to business processes.  For example, people seek out the smallest, coolest-looking cell phones, then expect them to provide business functionality.  The Palm PDA has been such a success, because it does a few simple things well, that are important to people as individuals.

Join me for daily dispatches from CES from January 6th through the 9th.
